The Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington, the leading membership organization representing commercial office buildings and multifamily residential real estate in the Washington, DC area welcomes Chris Pendley as AOBA’s Director of Sustainability Policy and Strategy, beginning July 1st.

“Having worked with Chris over the last several years on various case studies regarding DC and MD building energy performance standards (BEPS) matters, I am very excited to welcome him to the Apartment and Office Building Association's (AOBA) team,” said Peggy Jeffers, President/CEO of AOBA. “An expert on building energy policy, building systems, and process and program management, Chris will play a pivotal role in advancing AOBA members' commitment to responsible and affordable sustainability policy.”

Chris has worked in the Mid-Atlantic built environment for 17 years and accumulated knowledge on translating policy and regulation into action plans, conceptual heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system design and redesign, metering and data analytics, project validation, and process and program management. Chris worked as a Senior Building Systems Engineer for Steven Winter Associates (SWA) from 2021 through Spring 2024. Prior to his work at SWA, Chris worked for Boland Trane from 2007 – 2021 as an Energy Engineer and Project Developer.

“The board of directors of AOBA recognizes the ever-growing need for in-house expertise on sustainability matters,” said Jeffers. “In order to effectively contribute to the evolving policy discussions around sustainability, it is necessary to bring the building systems engineering perspective to the forefront when making these critical decisions. Chris will also help members navigate through the complex regulatory environment.”

Chris will work closely with AOBA’s and the AOBA Alliance, Inc.'s executive, government affairs, policy, and communications teams, as well as its external consultants, to support their Government Affairs and Utilities work in DC, MD, and VA on all matters regarding sustainability. “I’m looking forward to helping the AOBA team as a critical advisor on sustainability policy matters, and serving as an internal resource for members,” said Chris about stepping into this newly created position.
