AOBA Educational Foundation Winds Down – Grants Remaining Funds to the National Association of Power

At Issue and News,

The Board of Directors of the AOBA Educational Foundation (AEF) granted close to $300,000 to the National Association of Power Engineers (NAPEEF) to build two learning labs before dissolving the AEF non-profit corporation.

Seven years after its inception, the AEF Board of Directors authorized the dissolution of the organization due to a lack of sustainable funding. After careful consideration, the Board voted to support the building of two “Ready to Work” labs, named after the AOBA Educational Foundation.

In a letter to Dave Dargenzio, CEO of NAPEF, Diane Peters, Chair of the AEF said:

“AEF is proud to support this initiative, which aligns closely with our mission to equip individuals with the necessary technical skills and resources to thrive in the building engineering industry. The investment in Alexandria, VA and Greenbelt, MD training facilities, will provide invaluable hands-on experience for aspiring and current professionals, ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled engineers for generations to come. The approved funding of $296,480 will be allocated to the following per the final proposal submitted on January 31, 2025:

• Facility Renovations and Modifications

• Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing System Enhancements

 • Acquisition of Industry-Standard Training Equipment and Simulators

 • Ergonomic Furnishings and Infrastructure • Construction and Project Management Oversight

 • Washington, DC Mobile Lab Trainer (if funds allow)

• Outreach and Marketing for the Building Engineering Trades Awareness Initiative.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project on the next generation of building engineers and trades professionals.”

The AEF Resolution authorizing dissolution expressed “gratitude to all its members, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to the mission and activities of AEF over the years.”
