Dominion Virginia Power's Rate Increases

In an effort to increase awareness of the impact of DVP's rate increases and to encourage state legislators to take action, several members requested that AOBA provide simple language for distribution to residents and tenants. The following language may be used as an insert along with monthly utility bills. Feel free to adapt it as needed.

Are you upset about increases in your
monthly electric bill?
You can do something about it!

Last month, Dominion Virginia Power announced a $1.3 billion fuel rate increase for all Virginia customers. How has this impacted you? Beginning in August, residential customers will see increases in their monthly utility bills of approximately 20%, and commercial tenants' electric bills will rise between 20% and 35%. Unfortunately, several additional, questionable rate increases are looming on the horizon.

Over the past decade, Dominion Virginia Power has systematically eroded the authority of its regulatory agency, the State Corporation Commission, to help protect consumers from runaway electric costs. Essentially, the company is now operating as an unregulated monopoly that is currently experiencing windfall profits.

Contact your state legislators today to tell them it's time for a comprehensive review of Dominion Virginia Power's rates!
